Rockland, ME (April 9, 2008)- This week the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Maine granted Broadreach Family and Community Services $7,500.00 for its Youthlinks summer program. Located at Rockland, Maine, the Youthlinks summer program has 144 week long spots and serves 72 kids for two weeks of camp each. Broadreach Family and Community Services, formerly known as Waldo County Preschool & Family Services, is a private, nonprofit agency. Its programs and services have been making a positive difference in the lives of children and families since 1983 through several community programs in Belfast, Rockland and Unity. This donation will allow them to build upon the successful pilot program to serve more youth, develop new activities and expand community partnerships for the summer.
Youthlinks empowers youth to commit to (?) themselves to their community, broaden their horizons, and acquire healthy life skills through focused enrichment programs and meaningful volunteer opportunities. “The program has made such a positive impact on so many children in our state”, said Ruth Southworth, Executive Director, Broadreach Family and Community Services. “We’re so excited to see what happens this summer and so thankful for the support of the Ronald McDonald House Charities”.
Youthlinks Summer Camp 2008 will help youth to build leadership, critical thinking and communication skills while actively engaging in their communities. The camp program will be service-learning based and community-focused. This camp will again be open to all area youth between the ages of 11-17, and provided at no charge to the participants. The programs will meet at the Youthlinks center at 400 Broadway in Rockland, and take place at many sites throughout the community. Youthlinks will provide van transportation for youth to community sites from the Youthlinks center. The summer 2008 program will run from 9:00 to 3:30 daily, for eight one-week sessions.
